Mathew Santos (63') and Nolyn Do Nascimento (90') were on target with their second half strikes to hand Oakville Blue Devils a deserved 2-0 result over hosts Vaughan Azzurri.

Oakville keeper Matt George claimed a clean and ensured that the Blue Devils stayed on pace with west division leaders Sigma FC. Sigma hold a five point lead on second place Oakville, but the Blue Devils have a game in hand on the Mississauga-based academy.

Oakville were good value for the result in this fixture against Vaughan, the defending League1 Ontario champions, and Blue Devils head coach Duncan Wilde was happy with the overall performance.

"It's always an even game between ourselves and Vaughan," he said. "I don't think we have ever had a poor game. We have a very strong but a very healthy rivalry. It's usually between one or two goals and the game was everything we expected it to be."

"You have to come here and put in ninety minutes, start to finish. You can't let up for a second, you have to compete and you have to stay with your gameplan. Today we did that, created slightly more chances, and it paid off for us."

Oakville did create slightly more chances than their east division counterparts, and with Santos and Nascimento depositing two calm and collected finishes - Wilde was impressed with the manner in which his side kept their nerve under pressure.

"We dropped points a few weeks ago when I think we out-shot the other team by quite a lot, so I don't think creating chances has ever been the issue, we just need to take them and I thought today we were patient," he said.

"Their goalkeeper made a fantastic save in the first half, one of the best saves I've seen all season. We had to stay positive at half-time, maintain our composure and our concentration and we knew the chances would come and they did. We took them and I think at the end of the day we deserved our three points."

Vaughan Azzurri will next play Sanjaxx Lions on July 29 at Monarch Park, Toronto.

Oakville Blue Devils will next play Masters FA Saints on July 30 at Sheridan Park, Oakville.
