Unionville Milliken SC retained pole position in the women's division after a 1-1 away draw with West Ottawa SC on Matchweek 12.

Chemara Walters (45') capitalized on some momentary confusion in the West Ottawa midfield to score first for the visitors.

"I thought we had a very good first half," said Unionville head coach Glenn Faulknor.

"I thought the girls played a very good first and second half and I thought the result was fair. I think we did what we had to do in the game considering who we had."

"We had a keeper in there that doesn't usually play in there, Kavina Ganeshan," he added.

"She did very very well. I'm very proud of her and I'm proud of the whole team. We had a gameplan and they stuck to it and that was the result. I thought their goal was a little bit lucky, but they earned it. A draw is fair."

Melissa Harrison (86') responded late in the game for West Ottawa, knotting up the score and ensuring the Ottawans stayed in tie for second place in the division.

"I thought it was a pretty even first half, and they got a goal after a mistake that we made in the midfield," said West Ottawa head coach, Kristina Kiss.

"I thought we dominated the entire second half and we were a bit unlucky not to put more in the back of the net."

"It's a bit frustrating, a bit unlucky, a bit stressed in front of the net," she added.

"Sometimes the game goes that way. Glad to get the point, but too bad we didn't get a couple more."

"I thought Sarah Royer and Mel Harrison had fantastic games," said Kiss.

"But really it was a solid effort all through. Miranda Smith at the back, Mollie [Eriksson] pushed through injury in net - all in all it was a real team effort today."

West Ottawa SC will next play Vaughan Azzurri on July 23 at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.

Unionville Milliken SC will next play Aurora FC on July 22 at Bill Crothers Turf, Unionville.
