North Mississauga Panthers welcomed men's east division leaders Woodbridge Strikers on Matchweek 11 in a torrid end-to-end match that finally ended all square in a 1-1 draw.

"Woodbridge I’ve known for a couple years and they have good players and good coaching staff," said North Mississauga head coach, Sam Medeiros. "So you can’t take anything for granted."

"We’ve got - aside from TFC - one of the youngest teams in the league," he added.

"I believe this league should be used to elevate the young players of tomorrow, not for the ones who are here to pass time. So that's what we've done at North Miss, with the support of the board, that's the approach I've taken."

"Win or lose, they play their best, they put their bodies on the line and fight. As long as its in fair play I am good with it."

Christian Cavallini (24') opened the scoring for the Strikers mid-way through the first half in a match where numerous chances to score went begging.

"It's usually pretty difficult when you have to play a team back-to-back as we have had to do with North Miss, and you know I thought we gave up a couple points tonight," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto.

"I think we had two or three good quality chances but it has been like this - it's repetition every time I talk for an interview. It's always the same thing - missed chance after chance."

"I have to give credit to north Miss  they played a good game. I don't know what happened in the second half, we seem to have fallen asleep. But still we had enough good opportunities like breakaways and one on ones with the keeper and an open net. It has been the story of the year."

Nicholas Carter (54') found due reward for the hard work put in by the Panthers, scoring just before the hour mark to slot with a composure and confidence that belied his young age.

"There are guys on Woodbridge who are very knowledgable," said North Miss' Medeiros.

"I just told the young guys to remember - stick to your job, do what you need to do on the field whether its offensive or defensive and don’t worry about it. And they did just that."

North Mississauga Panthers will next play Masters FA Saints on July 15 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.

Woodbridge Strikers will next play Oakville Blue Devils on July 16 at Sheridan College, Oakville.
