Woodbridge's international tier players made the difference on Sunday as Canada U20 forward Jessica Lisi (12', 65') and Ukraine U18 player Nicole Kozlova (26', 60') each scored a brace, while Canada U20 Lauren Raimondo (31') added a single to complete a 5-0 defeat of Darby FC.

"We know of a few of their players are top class and can decide games, and so we just tried to stay compact and connected with each other," said Darby head coach, Mirco Schroff.

"I think in the first ten minutes we stuck to it and out of nowhere Woodbridge got an opportunity and it killed the game for us. We couldn't recover and it led to a series of goals against us."

"It also led to a style that I am not happy with at all as a coach. A player picked up a second ball in her own half and pretty much dribbled it into the net. To do that without any body contact even in football is just not acceptable. That is something that we discussed at half-time."

"There were clinical counter-attacks on their part, and they even missed a few," he added.

"We had some as well but the difference in finishing quality was apparent."

Woodbridge head coach Dave Porco is happy to have such an outstanding cast of players to choose from, but will soon lose many of the international set to a Canada U20 tour in China and Australia or to an Ontario team that is preparing for the Canada Games in late July.

"Yes well even at half-time today two players informed me they were hurting and so I pulled them out, it had nothing to do with their play," he explained.

"Lauren [Raimondo] is getting ready to join the U20s and she didn't want to push it, and I was fine with that - we were up 3-0 by half."

"The bonus is I have been dealing with that since day one," he added.

"We haven't had the same lineup since I started. We put in some of our youth players, U21 etc. and after we lose a few more after today we will just keep adding players from the other teams."

For Darby's Schroff, youth must turn to experience at some stage and as he explained his Darby team have shown maturity in patches, but now need to add an elusive consistency.

"We have had good games against mature, experienced teams such as Vaughan and Durham and those are the performances we need to connect to more consistently," he said.

"There are no more excuses for the players. We cannot stand here every week and say it is a young group. We need to mature, we need to progress, we need to anticipate more instead of reacting."

"All of these principles, the basic soccer principles, have to come into play to make it a bit more mature moving forward."

Woodbridge Strikers will next play Unionville Milliken SC on July 7 at Bill Crothers Turf, Unionville.

Darby FC will next play FC London on July 8 at German Canadian Club, London.
