Darby FC battled back from an early Julia Wong (13') goal for Sanjaxx Lions on Friday night, ultimately winning under the bright lights at Courtice Turf following goals from Sierra Bulger (24') and Delanee Judd (77').

"Delanee [Judd] made a difference," said Darby FC head coach.

"And that is something we always say to the players, if you don't start the game and then you come in part-way through - it is expected of you that you make an impact on the game. Otherwise what is the point of making changes if the game doesn't change? So, I'm happy with Delaney."

"She had a couple chances that she missed, but she finally got one and she rewarded herself and the team with a 2-1 win."

Despite the end result, a determined and resolute performance from Sanjaxx was nearly enough to get among the points.

"The score shifted at the end of the game, but other than that it was a pretty evenly matched game," said Sanjaxx head coach, Laza Lowe. "The first goal came out of nowhere."

"They may not have been two of the highest ranked teams in the league, but both teams today possessed good fighting spirit and they were able to get the best of us. I think they wanted it more than us."

"I thought at the end we showed great determination," he added.

"We were unfortunate to hit the post and there was a miss from inside the six-yard box, but this is part of football."

Darby's Schroff wasn't thrilled with his team's performance, but was happy to get three points in the Darby column.

"I think it's important that we got the three points," he said.

"The quality of the game itself, on our part, I don't think it was a good game. It was a scrappy win, I'll say."

"But we've had other games this season where we played well but didn't come away with the result, and today we got the three points and they really matter at this point."

"They give us some relief now to move into Woodbridge on Sunday, which is a big game for us as well."

Darby FC will next play Woodbridge Strikers on June 25 at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge.

Sanjaxx Lions will next play FC London on July 2 at Monarch Park, Toronto.
