North Miss Panthers got goals from Oshay Lawes (18') and Laura Twidle (69'), as well as a clean sheet from keeper Vanessa Fiore, to defeat West Ottawa SC 2-0 and maintain their grip on fourth position in a very packed women's table.

The Panthers shut out West Ottawa's league leading offence, and successfully nullified the threat of their leading scorers, such as Arielle Kabangu.

"That was the instructions, to remove her influence from the game," said North Miss assistant coach, Trevor Bertrand.

"Obviously she is an asset for them upfront, able to hold the ball up and distribute, so the intent was to remove her influence from the game and force them to go through someone else," he added.

"I think we were successful today."

West Ottawa's assistant coach Kwame Telemanque was not happy with the mentality his side took into the match, and said they just couldn't find a foothold to recover from an early deficit.

"I thought we started off a little shakey," he said.

"Credit to North Miss, they worked really hard. I thought they were first to the ball and won the fifty-fifty battles and that was the difference. We were unsettled and didn't have much flow to our game. They came out hard and were very disciplined and we didn't break through," he added.

"Usually we are a bit more dynamic and a bit more fluid, and it just wasn't happening for us today."

North Miss found success hitting on the break, especially with the visible change of pace from goalscorers Lawes and Twidle.

"We have been working on this for a while, the counter-attack," said Bertrand.

"As we counter with numbers we try to spread them wide and occupy the middle and we had quite a number of chances from it today."
