West Ottawa SC earned their second win of the season in a 3-1 defeat of Darby FC on Friday night.

Arielle Kabangu (34'), Vanessa Gilles (39') and Olivia Cooke (76') took care of the goals for West Ottawa.

"It feels good," said West Ottawa head coach, Kristina Kiss.

"We were really hoping for a result today, and although we had a bit of a slow start we ended very strong, in my opinion."

"We had a couple players - Ronnie in the midfield and Vanessa at the back - that set the tone today," said Kiss, speaking to the turning point in the match.

"Maybe twenty-five minutes into the game they won some important headers and put in some strong tackles that got the rest of the group going."

Sierra Bulger (80') pulled one back for Darby late on, but it was too little too late from the home side.

Darby head coach Mirco Schroff was disappointed in the result after a strong away draw last week against Vaughan Azzurri.

"I think that was the most disappointing aspect tonight, because we had a good game last week where we got a huge point against an opponent that you don't expect to get anything at all, and now it is worth nothing pretty much because we didn't follow through with the three points we should have got from a home game," he said.

"It's something we need to learn from. The girls are just as disappointed of course."

"It's hard to change that momentum within a game, although I thought we had a good spell in the second half for about fifteen minutes where we put more pressure on them and created a couple chances but it just wasn't enough to have a positive effect on changing the game today."

Darby FC will next play Durham United FA on Friday June 2 at Kinsmen Park, Pickering.

West Ottawa SC will next play FC London on Saturday May 27 at German Canadian Club, London.
