West Ottawa Soccer Club secured their first League1 Ontario win after a road-trip to Aurora FC in Matchweek Four, winning 3-1 at St. Maximillian Kolbe Turf, Aurora.

Iona University's Christine Rebus (45'), Costa Rica U17 player Carmen Marin (49') and Carleton University forward Emily Copeland-Dinan (66') got the Ottawans off to a commanding start.

"We thought we had a bit of a slow start actually, which has been a theme over the last few games," said West Ottawa head coach, Kristina Kiss.

"We just asked for a bit more effort and teamwork to cover for one another a bit more, and for them to push forward, which I think helped."

Aurora's Victoria Pickett (90') pulled one back late in the match, but it was too little too late from the home side. Pickett explained the players are still becoming familiar with a new league environment and with each other.

"I think considering that I have yet to play with these girls in a proper setting - today was the first game really, and before the game occurred we basically all introduced ourselves - I thought it was fairly good," said Pickett.

"Although we didn't always connect our passing, I thought we did connect fairly well considering it was a first time meeting and playing together."

"With the goal, I think Emilie [Cote] passed me a good ball, and I tried dribbling but I got fouled and I just managed to get it in under pressure," she added.

West Ottawa worked some tactical changes in the game to get more players further forward and neutralize the growing Aurora presence.

"We started with a 4-3-3 and switched to a 4-4-2 and we just did that based on what we saw Aurora doing," explained Kiss.

"We thought we could expose them out the outsides and we got a couple opportunities doing that so we're happy."

Aurora FC will next play Woodbridge Strikers on Saturday May 27 at St. Maximillian Kolbe H.S., Aurora.

West Ottawa Soccer Club will next play Darby FC on Friday May 26 at South Courtice Turf, Ottawa.
