Unionville Milliken SC made it three for three to start their first ever League1 Ontario campaign after dispatching of the 2015 League1 Ontario champions Durham United FA 3-1 at Bill Crothers Turf, Aurora.

"We're excited," said Unionville head coach, Bill Marcos. "It's our first year in the league and we are three and zero, we're doing well."

"They are growing, they're learning, and they are just getting better every single game."

Current Canada U17 and U20 player Samantha Chang (6') stuck away the opener within minutes of starting the match, but former Canada U17 player Maddie Iozzi (45') levelled for Durham with a well-taken penalty on the stroke of half.

"It's a tough one, we weren't at the races for the first thirty minutes," said Durham head coach, Chris Eveleigh.

"To come back into it at 1-1 by half-time, we were lucky I would say."

"But, second half, although there were two goals by them, it's another game where I'm looking at a game where the team has dominated," he added. "They didn't get into our half much at all."

"Last week I saw eleven players that worked as hard as they could for the club and for themselves and for each other, and this week I saw arguably a better team on the field but they didn't do as well as they could."

"We have to have a think, and a chat with some of the players, and see what we're going to do about this going forward."

Unionville kept control for large sections of the second half and were rewarded with a Tina Lacava (65') strike and an insurance goal from Natasha Klasios (79').

"It was unfortunate to give up a penalty right at the half, but one good thing about our girls is that they are very composed, very mature," said Marcos.

"We came back into the dressing room and talked about staying the course, continuing to play and we would get our breaks. Sure enough, we ended at 3-1 and we had some good luck."

"These girls are well ahead of their years," he concluded.

"They understand the game, they study the game and I'm not surprised at all."

Unionville Milliken will next play Toronto Azzurri Blizzard on Sunday May 28 at Azzurri Village Main, Toronto.
