Second place women's division team FC London travelled to take on third place Vaughan Azzurri on Sunday and took home a major 2-1 victory after late goal by Marisa Oliveira (90').

"I think that Vaughan was playing extremely well in the first half and we definitely got behind the eight ball with them scoring first," said FC London head coach, Mike Marcoccia.

"We had a long way to go to accomplish what we wanted to, but we slowly just continued to play our style and counted on that to pay out in the end."

The game was very evenly poised after Vaughan's Mika Richards (21') had put the home side ahead early on, and women's division Golden Boot leader Jade Kovacevic (41') levelled terms just before the break.

The goal puts Kovacevic on 17 goals - five ahead of Woodbridge's Christabel Oduro.

"It was a good game, it was a good football," said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco. "I thought we played well. I thought they were organized and did what they had to do, and they have an incredible player in Jade Kovacevic."

"She is probably the best player in the league, and she proved it over and over again. It was a good game too. Two good teams, and I thought we did a lot of things well, we just weren't as solid in the final third as they were."

The current L1 Cup holders after defeating Woodbridge in penalties earlier this month, Vaughan had several opportunities to win the match but could not capitalize.

"If we look at opportunities and all that stuff, I thought we outnumbered them in opportunities and positive actions, but they are a good team," said Isacco. "For us to get to the next level, we need to be more concentrated in the final third."

Mika Richards (21') put the home side up, but the goal may have served notice to the FC London side. Jade Kovacevic (41') added to her impressive goal tally just before the interval, taking herself to 17 on the season and leading the Golden Boot race.

"Yes for sure [being down made a difference]," said FC London head coach, Mike Marcoccia. "I think that Vaughan was playing extremely well in the first half and we definitely got behind the eight ball with them scoring first."

"We had a long way to go to accomplish what we wanted to, but we slowly just continued to play our style and counted on that to pay out in the end."

Pandemonium ensued when London's Oliveira knocked home the winner with seconds left in the contest.

"I think I ran and jumped on the fence or something!" said Marcoccia.

"It was a lot of fun. There is a lot of passion in this team and in this dressing room and the girl that scored too is one of the key players in this team and I think they players love that she was the player that was able to finish it off."
