East division leaders Woodbridge Strikers were successful in their road trip to Mississauga on Saturday, downing west division leaders Sigma FC 3-0 after goals from Tristan Watson (51'), Dylan Carriero (81') and Andrew Alonzi (90 + 6').

Keeper Matt George claimed his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Coming off a 1-0 home loss to Pro Stars last week, Woodbridge was looking for a better performance.

"Definitely the last game was really a poor game, we didn't play well at all, so we worked on keeping our shape a bit better and looking for increased intensity today," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto.

"The main thing today was our shape was good, the discipline was good, we shifted well as a team. I would say today was one of our best performances all season."

Pinizzotto was pleased to see his players return to winning ways, indicating that a psychological shift was needed.

"My advice to the boys after the last match was to take every opponent as though they are in first place," he said. "I told the boys that we still have a chance to finish first in the league but if we start dropping more points than we can start saying goodbye to the season."

"They know as well that we have a rule that we never lose two games in a row, and so far this season we have kept to that rule."

On the other hand, Sigma's nine match unbeaten streak to start the season has been derailed by a spell of losses and draws. The Mississauga based academy has only taken one win from the six previous matches.

"It was tough in the heat today, but both teams were playing in it," said Sigma captain, Nolan Holdridge. "There were a couple mistakes that we had that led to their goals, but if we had built a bit better, and taken our chances in the final third, it could have come our way."

Sigma has had recent turnover in their squad, with key players like Chris Nanco and Alex Halis departing and some of the academy's younger prospects coming through.

"Losing players [Chris] Nanco and [Alex] Halis - it's hard to fill the shoes of guys like that, but we have a good talent pool here at Sigma and I believe the boys who have been called up deserve to be there," said Holdridge.

"They have the qualities that the coaching staff are looking for and I think they can take care of the job."

"Today we did a good job of closing down in the middle, but we needed to do a better job of exploiting where they gave it to us and today we had a little bit of space on the wing," he added. "We found ourselves with some good one v ones on the line, and we just needed to get the final product and service to get it in the back of the net."

"We're just lacking a little of the end result right now," he concluded.

"We have a week off between this and next game so hopefully we can pull it together and start to hit form again."
