Vaughan Azzurri demonstrated their quality on Sunday with a 9-0 win over Darby FC.

Nadya Gill (10', 34', 58', 78') led the way for Vaughan, while keeper Stephanie Bukovec kept the clean sheet. Sarah Wong (3'), Nour Ghoneim (20'), Nicole Lyon (37'), Charlene D'Mello (56') and Colleen Beesley (90') completed the scoring on the day.

"We got to work on a few things today," said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco.

"We haven't had an easy go of it, so it was kind of nice to get some balls in the back of the net. It was good to get some continuity. We'll hopefully build and take something for this."

One of the stories of the day was two new signings for the Azzurri, Canada WNT players Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence, who played ninety minutes each ahead of their appearances for the Canada team at the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"They've been training with us, with our U21 men's," explained Isacco. "I didn't expect them to play. They wanted to play, and I asked them if they were sure and if John [Herdman, head coach of Canada WNT) was okay with it."

"I guess other girls from the Canada team are playing with pro clubs right now, and these girls were looking for some games as well. They will probably just play a bit before they leave."

"It's good for everybody to see these girls taking part in the league, and raising the level of the league in general," said Darby FC head coach, Mirco Schroff.

"You take away positives from playing against players like this because it's not as though you get to compete against players of the quality of Ashley Lawrence and Kadeisha Buchanan."

In their first season in League1 Ontario, Darby has had both positive and negative performances, and Schroff said the team had significant work to accomplish at present.

"We're still dealing with the aftermath of a loss to Woodbridge a couple weeks ago," explained Schroff. "It's pretty clear now that we're conceding too early and too easily in every game, and that's obviously not good for our overall confidence."

"Our overall body language goes down, and it almost seems like the belief to even come back in a game is not there at this point and time too."

Darby plays next on July 9 (4 p.m.) against Sanjaxx Lions at Monarch Park, Toronto.

Vaughan plays next in the second round of the L1 Cup against Sanjaxx Lions on July 1 (2 p.m.) at Ontario Soccer Centre.
