FC London women will remain in first place after captain and league leading goalscorer Jade Kovacevic (40', 53', 86') led them to a 4-1 victory over Sanjaxx Lions.

Sanjaxx's Joyce Johnson (16') put the Lions ahead in the early stages, but could not hold onto the lead. Kovacevic scored on both sides of half, before depositing her third just before full-time.

"I think that the conditioning did play a part in the second half, but I think our maturity did too," said London head coach, Mike Marcoccia. "We were patient. We weren't getting what we wanted out of the game, and it was our fault, we weren't able to execute what we wanted to."

"But I think our patience paid off and I think we ended up finding what we were looking for."

London's Amy Froome (88') finished off the goals for the day with a fourth for away side just before the whistle.

"I think one thing that had to do with today's performance was the heat, but both teams had to play in that so it's no excuse," said Sanjaxx assistant coach, Jalen Simms. "Then it comes down to conditioning, and by the end of the game it was clear that one team was fitter and wanted it more than the other."

"By the end we kind of gave up and lost hope and we let them walk through us and get a couple goals."

Simms explained that the team was still building up to its best, and sensed that the team was getting close to a breakthrough.

"It's our second year in the league, and even this year we had a lot of new players and needed to mesh and come together," she said. "It's starting to happen now, but we're still a way off."

Sanjaxx dropped to eighth position in the table, while London maintained first position on eighteen points - three more points than Woodbridge in second (with a game in hand on the Strikers), and four points ahead of Durham United.
