A deluge of rain, at near record levels, necessitated a move of Sunday's Windsor Stars - Kingston Clippers match from McHugh Stadium to the Libro Credit Union Centre in Amherstburg, ON. With the skies still threatening to unleash torrential rains, Windsor survived a persistent Clippers squad for an exciting 3-2 win.

The start of the game proved to be just as wild as the weather. In the first minute of play, Windsor's Brett Holmberg got his head to a good cross from teammate Michael Pio and directed the ball into the back of the Kingston goal. Then, less than a minute later, Kingston equalized on a Ryan McCurdy shot on goal that deflected off a Windsor defender and eluded Stars' netminder Kyle Vizirakis.

STARS: MICHAEL PIO

After that wild start, both teams settled down to a first half that featured very tight marking with few chances on goal, although Vizirakis was called on to make a big save in the 20th minute and Clippers keeper Navi Sidhu was also forced to make a pair of big saves, first on a Holmberg strike, followed by stopping Pio on a shot from close range.

STARS: ADEMOLU

In the 68th minute, former Canadian international Stephen Ademolu slid a well weighted through pass ahead for Pio, who ran onto it and directed a low shot toward the Kingston goal. It beat Sidhu and tucked into the corner netting to put Windsor up 2-1.

The home side didn’t enjoy the lead for long when, just three minutes later, Clippers' Pat Vanderholst found himself free and clear inside the Stars' eighteen yard box and fired a hard, low shot that eluded Vizirakis to square the match at 2-2.

Ademolu, Windsor's captain, then went back to work and put his stamp on the match, taking control of the midfield and directing the attack. Again Ademolu delivered a precise through ball, this time intended for Holmberg who made no mistake. The Windsor striker potted his second goal of the game and put the Stars ahead to stay.

There was some very late drama as the Clippers were awarded a free kick from just outside the box in second half added time. With six Stars forming a wall, the shot sailed wide and Kingston couldn't fashion another comeback to try to even the score.
