Sigma F.C. and Woodbridge Strikers kicked off 2015 League1 Ontario men's Matchweek Eight with a midfield battle that was narrowly edged by Woodbridge courtesy of a Damion Scott set-piece (51').

"We had a very good game plan coming into the match and took an early lead only for the game to go level shortly after that," explained Sigma head coach Bobby Smyrniotis. "This made for a very tight first half, when not much really went on offensively at either end."

"The early second half goal for Woodbridge on a set-piece made us have the come from behind once more at home, and unfortunately we were not able to turn the match despite several clear looks at the goal in the final fifteen minutes."

Sigma's Christian Samaniego (3') opened the scoring within the first five minutes, but Woodbridge replied immediately via Andrew Derayeh (6').

"I thought that Andrew Derayeh had his best game of the season, not only scoring the first goal but he was able to win many ball in the middle of the field," said Woodbridge head coach Peter Pinizzotto. "I thought one of the better player for Sigma was #23 (Christian Samaniego), who scored the opening goal but also did a good job playing in front of the the back four."

"Christian was our best player for ninety minutes," confirmed Smyrniotis. "He scored a top class goal, but beyond that he worked on and off the ball to create, provide tempo, and break up opponent attacks from his deep lying midfield role."

Both squads are coping with a heavy L1 Cup and league fixture list, as well as injuries to key players.

"As a result of our schedule over the past couple of weeks we have had a log jam of matches which has not provided us a good opportunity to work with the guys in training," said Smyrniotis. "We need that as a team in order to improve in some key areas."

"We must regroup and get in a session before we travel to Kingston on the weekend, when we will be playing a very good opponent at their home."

"We worked very hard throughout the game, and in the end we got reward with an important win in a very difficult place to get points," comcluded Pinizzotto. "The bad news of this game is losing another quality player, Victor Munoz, to an injury in second half."
