ANB Futbol men continue to impress in their sophomore League1 Ontario campaign, downing Windsor Stars 4-2 in matchweek eight, and nestling into a three way split in the table for third place, albeit with a match in hand over counterparts Sigma F.C. and Durham United F.C.

The match was a back and forth tense affair for the first sixty minutes, as ANB got out in front following a Jahsua Mills striker (39'), before Stefan Milidrag (56') equalized for Stars just after half-time, and Adonijah Reid (58') restored the lead within minutes. Jahsua Mills (73') would complete his double shortly afterwards, before brother Brandon Mills (75') created an unreachable lead. Stars remained resolute though, and Noah Pio (89') got a late consolation for the visitors.

ANB: JAHSUA MILLS

"The key moment for us was losing centre-back Jamar Kelly, who went down with an injury," said Windsor head coach, Shane Topalovic. "With a short bench, it was very hard for us to adjust. We will respond by just trying to get our guys healthy and make sure we have a full roster for the next game."

The injured Kelly was substituted in the 64th minute, making room for ANB's creative attackers to find gaps in the reorganized Windsor backline.

ANB: BRANDON MILLS

"[Our] biggest challenge was to regain the lead after the tying goal, considering the possession and opportunities that ANB had created," said ANB assistant coach Marcelo Almeida. "This happened right after the tying goal by Windsor, when Adonijah Reid was able to convert on a good goal scoring opportunity."

"The key moment was regaining the lead and adding to the score-line with a solid goal by Brandon Mills to put the game out of reach," he added. "He received a through ball, fought off a defender, and whipped a shot off the inside post."

Topalovic also extended praise to Brandon Mills for his passing, and "...scoring a great goal tonight."

The never-say-die attitude of Windsor Stars did leave the ANB staff uncomfortable on the sideline, however.

"Giving up two goals in the second half still shows some defensive lapses," concluded Almeida. "ANB does not have its full core of defenders, mainly due to injury. We will continue to work on this throughout training."

ANB will meet League1 Ontario leaders Oakville Blue Devils in matchweek nine, hosting the Devils on Saturday June 27th at Country Day School, King City, 9 p.m.

Windsor Stars have a very busy week, first hosting Toronto F.C. Academy on Wednesday June 24th at McHugh Stadium, Windsor in an 8 p.m. kickoff, before travelling to TFCA's Kia Training Ground on Sunday June 28th to meet the Junior Reds in matchweek nine competition, 2:45 p.m. kickoff.
