Pro Stars F.C. left it until very late in the game, but managed to overcome a two-goal deficit to earn their first point of the League1 season.

Sisters Martina Loncar (84') and Nicole Loncar (90' + 2') brought the away side back into a match they appeared to have let slip away after a Alessia Mattucci (34') penalty and Maxine Murchie (56') strike gave the Azzurri a comfortable lead.

"The whole squad turned in good performances," said Pro Stars head coach Benjamin Falkenstein. "Our back four were excellent, and midfield did very well. The biggest challenge was the team remaining mentally strong and optimistic after the first goal, which we felt was a questionable penalty award."

The point was the first of the season for Pro Stars, and Falkenstein hopes it will give his side the encouragement needed to keep up form.

"This result against a good Vaughan team will give the players a good boost," he said. "We will continue to work on our collective patterns over the next days to come."

In second place, Vaughan Azzurri is now eight points back of leaders Durham United F.C., however the Azzurri does hold a game in hand on their rivals at the top. Vaughan will hope to return to winning ways next Saturday July 4 vs. ANB Fubol at Country Day School, King City - 4 p.m. kickoff.

Pro Stars is also on the road next weekend, playing Durham United F.C. at Pickering Soccer Centre on Saturday July 4, 5 p.m. kickoff.
