North Mississauga Panthers hung tight with League1 Ontario leaders Durham United F.C. on Saturday evening but eventually succumbed by a score of 2-1 after conceding an unfortunate late goal.

"It was a balanced second half, however in the 85th minute a feeble cross came from the left side and the North Mississauga defence tried to clear, got a toe, and the ball trickled into the net to give Durham the win," said North Mississauga assistant coach, Trevor Bertrand. "We're disappointed - thought a draw was in order - but this is the game; you need to capitalize on your opportunities."

DUFC: ALEXANDRIA LAMONTAGNE

Durham went ahead in the sixth minute courtesy of star striker Alexandria Lamontagne, the 12th tally of the season for the Women's Division Golden Boot leader.  However, Panthers responded fairly quickly, evening the score in the 22nd minute.

""Durham opened the scoring but we responded with a goal from Sarah Nixon, and at half-time we spoke to the squad about pressing the Durham defence and the importance of not conceding an early goal," said Bertrand.

NMISS: SARAH NIXON

Not only did Panthers not concede an early goal, but they had opportunities to pull ahead of the visitors.

"Adjustments were made...this payed off, and we had a early breakaway that our striker struck wide of goal," said Bertrand. "That goal would have made a huge difference, and put Durham under some stress, but it wasn't to be."

Instead, perhaps undone by a drenched playing surface and geneerally difficult conditions, and the challenge of keeping their nerve against the top side in the league, Panthers were undone by a late goal that was awarded to Durham's Danielle Rotheram (84').

North Mississauga will be looking for a better outcome in matchweek seven, as theyinvite Woodbridge Strikers to Hershey Centre on Saturday July 4, 8 p.m.

Durham will look to continue to add points between their first placed position and the rest of the table, hosting Pro Stars F.C. at Pickering Soccer Centre on Saturday July 4, 5 p.m.
