Toronto FC Academy looked to have rebounded from their 5-2 loss to Windsor Stars in midweek L1 Cup action, as they led the Stars 3-0 at halftime in matchweek nine play at Kia Training Grounds.

Junior Reds' Matthew Srbely (33'), Leonard Sohn (38') and Cyrus Rollocks (41') all got the early markers in an eight minute flurry of goals that must have left Windsor head coach Shane Topalovic shaking his head in wonder, and Toronto FC Academy head coach Stuart Neely nodding his head in appreciation.

TFCA: RESHON PHILLIP

"On the day I think that Reshon Phillip, Andrew Dias, Stevie Furlano and Leonard Sohn all played well," said Neely. "They tried to be honest to the game plan and initiated many attacks. We played better football today and scored three goals and created other chances."

However, the Stars would not drop their heads, and it was Michael Pio (50', 63') that would lead the comeback, settling two into the net before the second half was twenty minutes old.

TFCA: STEVEN FURLANO

"I think the first goal for Windsor certainly changed the attitude of their team and then they began throwing their weight around," commented Neely. "On the day it worked well for them and they capitalized on our mistakes."

With tensions rising, TFCA appeared to get a lifeline in the seventieth minute as Windsor's Brett Holmberg was given a straight dismissal after a rash tackle on Toronto goalkeeper Nikita Degtyar. With only ten men, Windsor would have everything to do to secure a draw with only twenty minutes left.

But proving that an injured beast can often be the most dangerous, Windsor grabbed their third of the night through a Stefan Milidrag (74') strike, and even pushed to get the winner. However, after seven yellow cards and one red, the contest ended at ninety minutes with both sides level on points, and neither side satisfied with the outcome.

"As usual the physical presence of the opposition was a large challenge as they imposed themselves on the game," said Neely. "Combined with our own individual mistakes we gifted three goals to the opposition. It is important for our players to rest and come back to training to focus on our defensively responsibilities in our own third of the pitch."
