Congratulations to Oakville Blue Devils' Filipe Vilela and Durham United F.C.'s Nora Abolins, the 2015 League1 Ontario MVPs.

Oakville maintained fantastic form throughout the entire 2015 campaign, taking an early lead in the league standings and building upon it over the 22-match season. A major part of the club's success was the regular presence, and continuous goalscoring ability, of central striker Filipe Vilela.

Vilela racked up 21 goals over both league and cup competition, provided a focal point for the BLue Devils attack, and ran the channels selflessly to keep opposing defenders in a constant state of motion.

OAKVILLE: FILIPE VILELA

Vilela's ability to pull apart defences was aptly demonstrated in the Inter-Provincial Cup first leg vs. Quebec champions CS Mont-Royal Outremont Griffons. Griffons had clearly done their homework and put two, and at times three, markers on the League1 joint-top scorer.

Vilela's clever movement off the ball made space for fellow forwards Tyler Wason and Khody Ellis to find space, and it was Vilela to provide assists on two of the goals in a valuable 3-1 first leg win.

At the other end of the pitch, Durham United F.C. goalkeeper Nora Abolins emerged as a clear force early in the inaugural League1 Ontario 2015 women's season.

By the end of the season, Abolins recorded 11 clean sheets in 2015 (10 in regular season, one in L1 Cup play).

An outstanding athlete who made numerous acrobatic, highlight reel saves during the season, Abolins was key to the continued success of DUFC, even after they lost a large chunk of the core of their roster in early August. Demonstrated strong leadership and a flair for making huge saves to keep her team in a game.

DURHAM: NORA ABOLINS

In one particularly memorable performance, Abolins essentially locked up the league title for DUFC in late September vs. Woodbridge.

Strikers needed to win to have any hope of taking the title away from Durham, but Abolins made several outstanding saves in the first half while Woodbridge attacked in waves, keeping her team in the game until they could draw even late in the second half. The result handed Durham the inaugural League1 Ontario women's division title.
